What does Elsevier want with Mendeley?

As I understand it, Mendeley is much more of a social network than Endnote or Refworks. It is supposed to work as last.fm works for music, but in the academic realm. http://blog.search-computing.net/2010/12/mendeley-building-the-worlds-largest-semantic-research-database/

By acquiring Mendeley, Elsevier potentially gets an incredible amount of information on their users. I agree with William. It is very difficult to foresee how the academic community will react. I certainly know that I don’t want Elsevier with all that information on me.
