This is for everyone who wants to wish Mac a (belated!) happy birthday and to thank him for sharing his incomparable knowledge of cataloging. I made this card from a word cloud of the subject lines of Mac’s posts to Autocat from the period of 2015-2016, and from his very first year, 1996-1997 using Tagul. I also based the shape from a picture of him from an online conference when I was lucky enough to be included as a virtual speaker. I thought he looked especially snazzy. Please share your best wishes below.
Best wishes Mac. You have given us all so much!
The best to the best!
Wishing you many happy birthdays. Your website and Autocat posts have been a constant source of learning & help for me over the past few years.
Happiest belated birthday! Recollect your presentation at OLAC 2010 with fondness. Sending heartfelt appreciation for your contributions to the cataloging community. Best wishes.
Happy Birthday, I depend upon your advice in Autocat.
Happy Birthday!! I never posted on AUTOCAT but I read your posts with great interest over the last 18 years and made a lot of use of your cheat sheets and other materials on your website, and also enjoyed looking at stuff dealing with your BC life on the site. Again, Happy Birthday!
Happy Belated B'day, Hon! Thanks for your clarifying contributions to the profession over many years.
Happy (Belated) Birthday, Mac! You've represented to me a voice of clarity and reason in the world of catalog(u)ing and metadata since I started in the profession. I send you my deepest respect and eternal gratitude!

Happy happy birthday! Thank you for all your work over the years, and for your love of libraries!
Dear Mac, Happy Belated Birthday! I want you to know how much I have appreciated you and your cataloging expertise over the many years. I use your cheat sheets constantly. You have always kept us abreast of changes in cataloging, and you have provided us with many best practices. I have enjoyed our many cataloging conversations and debates both on and off Autocat. I especially appreciate the care you have provided your cataloging customers and catalogers everywhere. I think that we all feel like we are part of your extended family. I know that I do. There was a point in my life where I was in crisis, and you extended me the opportunity to come (with my baby) and work there on the mountain until I could find a more permanent cataloging position. While I did not take you up on your offer of being able to retreat to your calm harbor to heal and regroup, I will always remember you for reaching out to me with this kindness. I admire you, Mac, not only for your cataloging expertise, but for being such a genuinely good human being. Greatness has come of you, Mac, a boy who was born and bred in a briar patch -- those various small towns in Georgia, in a time when the Deep South was deeply segregated, long before the American Civil Rights Movement. It gives me hope to see that someone who comes from such humble beginnings can be such a powerful force in the areas of race relations and inclusiveness, all while staying true to your religious beliefs and values. You have touched so many lives, and I have felt so very blessed in knowing you. Love and Peace, Julie
Happy belated birthday. Through your autocat posts, you've been my great post-school teacher and inspiration. Thank you.
Happy Birthday, Mac! Alternate title: Happy Happy Happy Birthday!!! You're a generous teacher AND you provide cheat sheets. Be well and keep in touch. Cheers.
I treasure your contributions to our field, Mac, as I know your friends and family treasure you in your private life. A belated best wishes for you on your birthday.
Happiest of birthdays to you, Mac. You might catch up with Lubetzky yet. Thanks for the help over the years and the example you've set.
I seldom fail to learn from you. May you have many years ahead.
Congrats. Looking future to the next hundred years with Mac. Happy b-day.
Happy Birthday and thank you for everything! I was the lucky person who invited Mac and James to speak at the virtual conference. It was incredible to actually hear Mac's voice after years of reading his posts. Mac's cheat sheets and insightful commentary has helped me tremendously over the years and, I suspect, will continue on even when Mac is not there to update with new wisdom.
