Here in Italy, popes are referred to by their worldly names as much as by their papal names. So, John Paul II was constantly referred to as Wojtyla and Benedict XVI as Ratzinger. People will look for them under both names.
Again, I suggest reconsidering the need for a single “authorized” form of name in the new environment. Is a single, authorized form of name actually a remnant of thinking in physical terms and not in digital terms? The absolutely vital cross-reference structures in our catalogs haven’t worked in years, especially since the introduction of keyword.
New solutions should be found.
